Prisoner gets more time for contraband

A man who was expected to finish his sentence by next week, was ordered to spend an additional month in jail when he appeared before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.

Lincoln Johnson, 19, pleaded guilty to the charge of taking steps to introduce contraband in lock-up. His sister, Dominique McCarthy, who was also charged with the offence, walked away a free woman after the charge was withdrawn by the prosecution.

The court heard that a package which Johnson gave his sister to deliver at the lock-up was found to contain contraband .

When he appeared before Senior Parish Court Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague, she appeared visibly upset as she reprimanded him for his actions. "You gave her package to deliver with things that must not be at the lock-up? Why did you do that to your sister?" she asked him. Johnson said he could not explain the reasoning for his actions.

"You are wicked. You are so wicked to have done that to your sister," Cole-Montague stressed.

Serving time for similar offence

Johnson is currently serving time for similar offences. It was not said in court whether the incident happened while Johnson was behind bars.

"You should have been finished with your sentence the 22nd of this month, but now I'm going have to give you something else," the judge said. "You don't give me any other choice."

"You have been before a court, and you got 60 days, and whichever judge was so kind, let you serve 30 days for them to run concurrent. And you do it again? It would mean that you are not learning. At 19 years old, I think you can benefit from someone a run you down little bit. I feel very strongly about people trying to introduce contraband in a lock-up. It wrong, next thing you hear a cell phone reach in the lock-up. I am remanding him further on this matter," the judge said.
