Ex-con facing new larceny charge
A St Andrew man who was released from prison seven months ago after serving time for simple larceny, is facing new larceny charges as he is accused of stealing a gold chain.
Omar York pleaded not guilty to the charge of larceny from the person last week when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court. It is alleged that on January 28, at 12:30 p.m., the complainant was walking along Barry Street in downtown Kingston when York approached her and grabbed her chain from around her neck. She held onto him and a tussle ensued between them. York then threw the chain on the ground and was later apprehended by the police.
The accused told Senior Parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague that he was unaware of the allegations and confirmed that he was recently released from prison after being sentenced for simple larceny.
"Me deh a road seven months now and me a behave myself. Me a do some construction work and police just hold on pon me," York told the judge while maintaining his innocence. A fingerprint order was made and York was remanded in custody until March 28.
