Moodie double sinks Bridgeport

A goal in each half by Scott Moodie helped Calabar High School to an upset win over Zone G leaders Bridgeport High in the ISSA-FLOW Manning Cup at Dunbeholden yesterday.

Bridgeport dropped to second in the group after losing 2-0 as results elsewhere went against them.

Calabar's coach Ligyasu Simms credited his boys for reversing an earlier loss to Bridgeport. Simms believes a change in formation worked in Calabar's favour.

"Today we changed the formation against Bridgeport", he revealed. "It paid dividends as you can see," he advised on his use of a 4-4-2 formation.

Glenroy Dawkins, assistant coach of the previously undefeated Bridgeport team, blamed complacency for the unexpected loss.

"Knowing that we have beaten Calabar in the first match and knowing that they were way below us in the table complacency got the best of us, and that cost us the three points today," Dawkins.

St Jago High beat Campion College 6-0 at the Prison Oval, to move level with Bridgeport on 13 points. Superior goal difference puts St Jago atop the competitive Zone G standings.

On Friday, St Jago visit Calabar and coach Simms envisages a tough game. However, he is backing his team to win.

"We know what we have to do and the boys are up to the task", he asserted. When the two teams met at the Prison Oval a few weeks ago, St Jago won 1-0.
