Dacres, Richards to star at King of the Ring
Olympian Fedrick Dacres will continue his fine early-season throwing tomorrow at the King of the Ring competition at Excelsior High School. Dacres has already set a national record this season, throwing 68.67 metres at Excelsior on January 21.
The 2015 Pan-Am discus champion will have his teammate, 2012 Olympian Traves Smikle, as his main rival tomorrow.
The throws-only competition starts at 8.30 a.m. with Dacres, and the other entrants in the men's discus swinging into action at 1.45 p.m.
The left-handed Smikle placed second to Dacres at the last meet staged at Excelsior, where he produced a fine throw of 64.64 metres.
Jamaica's other world-class thrower, O'Dayne Richards, is the big name in the men's shot put which starts at 3 p.m.
Richards, an Olympic finalist, is building fitness after a return for knee surgery last year. The MVP putter's impressive resume includes gold medals at the Pan-Am and Commonwealth Games, the national record at 21.69 metres and bronze at the World Championships.
