Not all abortions are wrong

Dear Pastor,

I would like to hear your comments. I have been reading your column. It has helped me. I am confused about something that people are talking about these days.

It is about abortion. What are your views on abortion? Should a girl do an abortion? Would you encourage her to do so?

Dear Anonymous,

I have written about abortion on many occasions. Right now I am only prepared to say a few things. I do not believe, neither do I support, abortion on demand.

However, I will never take the position that at all times, abortion should be considered wrong. I have stated that in writing and I have said it on radio.

(1) If it can be proven that the life of the pregnant woman is in danger if the pregnancy is carried, then it might be necessary to terminate the pregnancy.

(2) In the case of incest, abortion might also be necessary.

(3) In the case of rape, and where the victim believes that she cannot carry the pregnancy and she might suffer not only physically, but psychologically, it might be wise to terminate such pregnancy.

These are the three terms that I would consider it necessary to abort pregnancies.

However, I cannot, with a clear conscience, support women who have got pregnant and believe that because she has control over her body, she has the right to abort pregnancies regardless of the stage of the pregnancy. I could say more, but that would suffice for now.
