Alleged liquor thieves have bail extended

May 14, 2019

Two St James men who allegedly conspired to steal more than $221,000 worth of liquor from the hotel where they worked in 2018 are booked to return to the St James Parish Court on July 4 for the continuation of their case.

Barrington Rankin, of a Cornwall Courts address, is charged with conspiracy to commit larceny, while Davantie Dale, of an Ironshore address, is charged with larceny as a servant.

They had their bail extended when they appeared before presiding judge Sandria Wong-Small last Thursday.

While the reason for the case being put off was not made clear, it is understood that the matter had previously been stalled due to the prosecution's difficulty in getting a number of outstanding statements from the hotel.

At that time, Wong-Small had ordered the prosecution to proceed with a plea and case-management hearing if they had sufficient information to proceed against Rankin and Dale.

Allegations are that Rankin and Dale arranged to remove boxes of liquor from the hotel where both were employed.

The liquor was reportedly taken from a storage area at the facility on September 17, 2018, and moved to another location, where a bus was parked.
