Private Paul Lindsay was murdered in Clarendon yesterday.

Paul Lindsay would have celebrated his 48th birthday today but instead of celebrating the milestone, his family is in mourning. Lindsay, otherwise called Gary, a member of the National Reserve, was shot and killed after his birthday party ended in Clarendon Park, Clarendon, yesterday.

It is reported that the assailant emerged from nearby bushes wearing dark clothing and shouting expletives at the soldier before opening fire at him. Lindsay, the E-10 Boss as he is called, and another person were hit. They were taken to the hospital, where Lindsay, who operated a sound system, was pronounced dead.

"He was like a father figure to many of us in the barracks," a soldier who served with Lindsay said. "He was always jovial and he was one of the persons people look forward to seeing when they go to work."

ROLE MODEL

Lindsay's colleague said he was a role model in his community. His mother said he was "one of a kind".

"Mi caah believe to see gunman woulda come shoot me son. Him too good. Mi never hear him and nuhbody a quarrel, me never hear him a complain. Him and everybody a friend," the mother said.

Lindsay is the second soldier to be killed in Clarendon in less than one months. Private Garfield Williams, otherwise called Gary Porter, was shot and killed along Cemetry Road in Denbigh, Clarendon, on June 22.

National Security Minister Dr Horace Chang said the police suspect that robbery was a motive for the killing.
