100 new COVID cases, 10 more deaths

Four women and four men from Manchester, account for eight of the ten Jamaicans who have been reported as having died from COVID-19 in the latest clinical summary from the Ministry of Health, increasing the death tally to 902.

The deaths occured between February 9 - May 18, 2021.

The four men are all senior citizens aged 85, 80, 76 and 63, while the women included two 86-year-olds, a 70-year-old and a 52-year-old. 

The other deceased are a 56-year-old woman from Kingston and St Andrew and a 71-year-old man from St James. 

Five more fatalities are under investigation.

Meanwhile, there were 100 new cases in the last 24 hours, with ages ranging from one year to 92 years, pushing the total to 47,672 with 22,766 being active.

Of the new cases, 53 are women and 44 are men.

A total of 1,565 tests were conducted.

The country's positivity rate stands at 10.1%.

In the meantime, there were 113 more recoveries, increasing the total to 23,643.

Some 180 persons are in hospital with 42 being moderately ill and 13 critically ill.
