Man beats babymother with metal chair

A Corporate Area man had his bail revoked after he pleaded guilty to hitting his child's mother with a metal chair.

Dayne Bryce, 30, confessed to the act yesterday in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court, after he was arraigned on a charge of unlawful wounding.

"We got in an argument and things got out of control. I used a ratchet knife and butt her in her head," Bryce explained to Chief Parish Judge Chester Crooks.

It was reported by the complainant that on March 18 about 11:23 p.m., Bryce used the chair to hit her in the back of her head, face and on her foot. Crooks requested that the probation department complete a special report on the defendant.

"It will give you the chance to explain, if you wish to, why you did what you did, why you lost control like that to the point that you used a metal chair to beat the mother, as well as why you pulled a ratchet after her. It will give me the chance to find out about you, like your background and stuff," Crooks outlined.

Bryce shared with the judge that he is unemployed and has a previous conviction for drugs. The investigating officer informed the court that it was not the first time that Bryce had used a metal chair to hit a woman, as he also hit his current girlfriend who is pregnant.

Troubled by the information, Crooks ordered that Bryce be remanded in custody until May 24, when he is to be sentenced. He was made the subject of a fingerprint order.
