Defending champs advance to netball semi-finals
Defending junior champions Denbigh and senior champions Holmwood Technical High are both into next week's semi-finals of the Rural Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association Schoolgirl netball competition.
Denbigh had a convincing 32-8 win over Montego Bay High, while it was a narrow escape for the defending senior champions Holmwood, who squeezed by Glenmuir by one goal, winning 38-37 in Wednesday's quarter-finals.
Long-time head coach of Holmwood, Carlene Graham-Powell, was happy that her team survived and stated that illness affected her team.
"Three of my top players were suffering from the flu and this was the reason why the score was so close because all season the team has been scoring high numbers, and it was the willpower of the girls that got them through," she said.
Holmwood will meet Manchester High in one semi-final, while last year's beaten finalist Denbigh, who had a big 52-10 win over Herbert Morrison, will go up against Knox College in the other.
Knox survived 31-27 over Anchovy in a close encounter.
