Cavalier eye Gothia Cup qualifying spot

Cavalier SC will go into their final group six game for the Gothia Puma under-17 trophy at the Gothia Cup football tournament currently being played in Sweden, knowing that a win will put them in category A, while defeat would drop them to category B.

The Rudolph Speid-coached team has two points after drawing their two matches, both against Swedish opponents. They ended 1-1 with Orebro and tied 0-0 with Halmstads BK in their second match of the tournament. Both Halmstads and Orebro defeated Ostersunds FK by three-goal margins, and Speid is confident they can get the win against another Swedish side, Ostersunds, in their final group game this morning. He also hopes that they can get the required goal tally to see them through to the top teir of the next round.

"This is the final round of games for the teams. It will determine who goes to category A or category B. The top two teams go to category A and third and fourth go to category B," Speid said.

"But it is still tricky, because we have to win by more than three goals if the teams draw. But if any of them (other teams) win and we win, we go through with the winner," he continued.

"We know we can win, because we got all the chances in the first two games but we were let down by faulty shooting. But we went into the second game not at full strength, as Issac (Scott) got injured but he will be ready for the game tomorrow (Wednesday). So we have no doubt that we will win, it's just a matter of how much we will score," he stated.

He noted that the team has improved with every game and that players such as Dwyane Atkinson, Shaneil Thomas, Ronaldo Webster, Dwayne Allen and Issac Scott have impressed for the Jamaicans.

"The improvement has been tremendous. The first game we played well but the second match we were much more organised and we expect to do even better (next game). We have been improving every game and we believe we have the ammunition we need to get the goals," he said.
